About Lewis Carroll

Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, known by his pen name Lewis Carroll, was born on January 27, 1832, in Daresbury, Cheshire, England.

In 1843, Dodgson's family moved to Croft-on-Tees, close to Darlington, once there he attended Richmond Grammar School in nearby Richmond. He later attended Oxford University, where he studied mathematics and logic and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1854.

After completing his studies, Dodgson returned to Oxford as a lecturer in mathematics and continued to pursue his academic career while also pursuing his interests in photography and writing.

In 1856, Dodgson met Henry Liddell, the dean of Christ Church, Oxford, and his family, including his daughter Alice, who became the inspiration for Dodgson's most famous work, "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland."

In 1864, Dodgson moved to Croft-on-Tees, near Darlington, where he lived with his family for several years. He continued to write and publish books, including "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" and "Through the Looking Glass."

Dodgson also pursued his passion for photography during his time in Croft-on-Tees, and he took many portraits of notable people, including Tennyson and Ellen Terry.

Dogson died on January 14, 1898. He is buried in the cemetery of the Church of St. Mary the Virgin in Guildford Surrey.

Dodgson's legacy as a writer and creator of beloved children's books has endured for over a century. His works have been adapted into numerous films, television shows, and stage productions and continue even today to captivate readers of all ages.
